Whatever the reason, if you decide to stay home, your contractor shouldn’t have a problem with it. But the real question is if you should stay home. Even though it’s your choice, any local reputable roofing contractor will recommend you vacate your home whenever they’re working on your roof.

So, a contractor recommends you leave during your roof replacement, but why? There are 4 things you need to be aware of if you want to stay home during a roof replacement. 

Between the noise and the possibility your car may get blocked in, you may change your mind about staying home. 

1. Roof replacements are very loud and annoying

If you’ve never been in your home when someone is hammering nails on your roof, you don’t realize how loud your roof replacement will be. It’s hard to stay inside your home with the constant banging. 

If you have a two-story house, then the banging will be a little muffled on the first floor. But no matter where you are in your home, it’s going to be extremely aggravating to hear the installers hammer nails until the sun goes down. 

2. Think about how your pets may react to the noise of a roof replacement 

You also have to consider your pets. From what I’ve heard from customers, cats seem to be more affected by the noise than dogs. I’ve had customers who said they didn’t see their cat for a week after a roof replacement…. That is due to the noise during the roofing install.

If you have a dog that’s bothered by thunderstorms then chances are they’re not going to like the loud pounding and banging. Don’t drive your pets crazy, it’s better to find somewhere they can go until your roof replacement is completed. 

3. Stay out of the way of the installers during your roof replacement

Your contractor won’t throw all the roofing debris by your door or other entrances to your home. However, if you stand by or near the gutter line there’s a possibility you could be hit with some shingles.

4. Don’t let your vehicles get blocked in before the roof replacement begins

Something else you need to consider is your cars. One of the first things a contractor does when they arrive at your home is to ensure they aren’t blocking any of your cars in. But if you decided to stay home during your replacement and you didn’t move your car because you didn’t expect to go anywhere, what happens if you need to leave your house?
