Every so often we come across some interesting roofs in Charlotte, and today was one of those days! Camouflaging the Problem in roofing means the roofer uses left over shingles that do not match to patch up the roof. Very bad idea! While heading over to do some roof repairs for a customer, I had to stop and do a double take to make sure I was not seeing things. The roof in the above picture was an intersecting gable roof. It had mismatching shingles installed on it throughout the whole house. Although it looks like the house is protected from the elements, it definitely tells a story.
Camouflaging the problem with low-cost solution
The left side of the house had mismatching architectural shingles. While the whole right side still had the original three-tab shingles. After quickly examining the roof, we came to a conclusion that there was a roof leak on the left side. And it was covered up with whatever shingles the installer had. Although this may have been a “financially sound” decision at the time. Eventually, the other side will still have to be replaced. Camouflaging the problem with a low-cost solution is never the right solution in the long run.
