Second, Indian Trail's open-lot subdivision layout has very little mature tree canopy compared to older Mecklenburg suburbs. With nothing to break up the ice on its way down, hailstones hit roofs at full velocity. The same storm that drops 1.5" stones on a tree-canopied Mint Hill street can drop the same stones onto an Indian Trail rooftop with zero buffer.
